Introduction
Children need gentle guidance and correction in many aspects of their life. For a significant number of children who do not spontaneously grow out of “bowed legs” or “knock knees,” pain and/or difficulty in running may ensue. These children can benefit from a new, minimally invasive surgical procedure that involves the insertion of a small device called the eight-Plate.

Guided growth can harness the robust potential of a child's growth plate to correct angular deformities. The new eight-Plate from Orthofix is a minimally invasive, secure implant that allows speedy postoperative recovery with immediate weight bearing. The eight-Plate uses two holes and diverging screws to function like a hinge and avoid growth plate compression. It gently guides the natural growth process and restores limb alignment without the need for invasive osteotomy.

The GUARDIAN® Distal Femur is ideal for cases involving severe bone loss. Such damage may be due to tumors, trauma or failed knee arthroplasty, even in cases where bone loss is so great that the ligaments cannot be saved. The prosthesis consists of an optional stem centralizer, a stem, and a hinged knee that includes tibial and femoral assemblies. The constrained design precludes the need for a patellar component.

The GUARDIAN® Limb Salvage System offers five different products for limb salvage surgery. The materials used to make these components are cobalt-chrome, ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, and titanium. All GUARDIAN products are extensions of Wright Medical Technology’s hip and ADVANCE® knee replacement products

The GUARDIAN® Proximal Femur may be used for cases involving tumors, trauma or failed hip arthroplasty. The prosthesis consists of a neck and mid-section component, a stem, and an optional stem centralizer. The taper accepts ceramic or cobalt-chrome heads in a choice of 28 mm and 32 mm sizes. The prosthesis is fully compatible with the SLR Bipolar System and all Wright Medical Technology acetabular cups.

The resurfacing femur design allows for only 28mm femoral bone resection and is available in a wide range of sizes that promote optimal prosthesis fit. The constrained design precludes the need for a patellar component. The prosthesis consists of a femoral stem, resurfacing hinged femur/tibia, axial pin, polyethylene spacer, proximal tibia, optional midsection and tibia stem.
